However, if you are new in the field or have just started so that you only have a few photographs and this may derail your decision to create your own portfolio. You shouldn’t let this happen to you anyway, you can begin making your portfolio because all the same, clients will want to see your work so as to make a decision whether to pick your services or not.
This is why you need to be very keen when considering the below 7 top tips that can enable you get the right portfolio in place. The binder or album that you choose has to be of high quality and with the provisions to allow adding and subtracting of pages. It is expected that your business would be growing and you will get more photos to add to the portfolio and you may also not have to carry the whole portfolio to every client when you are meeting them, you may need to customize it occasionally to suit their needs. So, to the 7 top tips.
a) Certificates- you do not have so many photos yet but you have the skills required. Can you let the clients know about the skills and trainings you have undertaken by adding a copy of your certificates on relevant courses to the portfolio? If you have any memberships, you can add these too.
b) Licenses and permits- Let your clients know that you are practicing in a legitimate manner. Your clients need to know that you are serious and when you include copies of your licenses and permits, they will be able to pick that.
c) Publicity- If opening your business was such a huge success that if got some press release writing, you may also want to add this to your portfolio. Show off to your clients that you are renowned.
d) Organizational skills- as a planner, your greatest strength should be organizational skills. As such, you would want to include samples of your work without including names on how you helped others, add these too to the portfolio.
e) Any notes- previous customers who have enjoyed your services and appreciated through testimonials and small notes should also be cut and placed in the portfolio.
f) Other photographs- you would not miss to have one completely. Anything that you have photographed before that related to a wedding should be included.
g) Wedding day emergency kit photo- last but not least, show-off photos of a kit that you use to handle emergencies and describe it a little in your portfolio.
